Mexico Surpasses U.S. Adult Obesity Rate

The very first time Mexico has surpassed the U.S. in amounts of adult obesity, a distinction that experts attribute to Mexicans abandoning their traditional diet for processed fast foods and drinks.

Almost one-third of adult Mexicans or 33% are obese when compared with 32% of American citizens, in accordance with the U . N . Food and Agriculture Organization.

Experts say the reason for the challenge in Mexico is evolving dietary patterns that have also changed with Mexican Americans living here in America.

One factor is Mexicans consume more soft drinks per person than any other group that contain plenty of sugar.

Mexicans will also be increasingly eating more refined flour, sugar and-dense foods. Katia Garcia, a nutritionist and researcher say Mexicans have been abandoning their traditional diet of tortillas, beans, rice and chili, which can be rich in fiber and vitamins and eating unhealthy food.
