Deputies
answering a 911 emergency call on Monday night said the 27-year-old actress had
started the fire in the driveway in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County sheriff's
Capt. Don Aguilar said.
In the 911 call,
residents revealed to emergency operators that Bynes "put a small little
bit of cloth on a gasoline tank".
One male witness
who alerted authorities described the fire as "very small", but said
the flames were "decently close" for the house, burning just 5ft
away.
KABC-TV
confirmed the flames were fueled by gasoline. Deputies determined that Bynes
met the requirements to get a mental health hold and took her into custody,
where she will take place for 72 hours of observation, Mr Aguilar said.
Passer-by Andrew
Liverpool told KABC he found Bynes after seeing the flames.
"It's dark,
it's 8:45 and I just see her laying down, stomach up and her pant legs on fire,
a trail of, you know, fire and gas, and I pull over,'' he was quoted saying.
No charges were
filed and responding fire officials would not administer any medical care, Mr
Aguilar said.
Richard Hutton
and David Feldman, who is listed as Bynes' attorneys in industry databases,
refused to comment.
The first sort
Nickelodeon actress has experienced several run-ins using the law. In December,
she resolved a misdemeanor hit-and-run case after getting into a civil
settlement with drivers.
She was charged
last fall with driving with a suspended license after it turned out temporarily
resigned from her following two hit-and-run cases.
She also pleaded
not guilty to drunken driving in the separate case.
Earlier this
month Bynes appeared in a The Big Apple court on allegations which she threw a
marijuana bong your window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment.
