Somalia has the rate of polio vaccination in the world after Equatorial Guinea, according to the World Health Organization.
Somalia hadn't had a case of polio for up to six years. But previously month or two, the virus is here back. The actual East African country contains the worst polio outbreak around the globe.

Twenty new installments of polio were immediately in Somalia with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. That literally brings the total number of cases within the Horn of Africa to 73. The remainder of the world combined has tallied only 59 cases to date this year.

Health staff are worried the virus could achieve a foothold within the Horn of Africa and jeopardize the multibillion-dollar effort to wipe out herpes worldwide.

Until this recent outbreak, global efforts to eradicate polio was making remarkable progress. Last year the number of children paralyzed by polio hit an increasing low at 223.

In 2010 it had been appearing like there would be even fewer cases. The very last significant pockets from the virus appeared to be isolated in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Then in May, a couple-year-old girl in Mogadishu took over as first confirmed case of polio in Somalia in additional than six years.

The number of polio cases in Somalia is increasing each day, says Dr. Nasir Yusuf, who leads UNICEF's immunization efforts in eastern and southern Africa.

Part of the problem, he states, is that most of children in Somalia have not been immunized against polio. "There's an outbreak inside a population that is quite vulnerable for many years," Yusuf says.

Somalia gets the rate of polio vaccination on earth after Equatorial Guinea, in line with the World Health Organization.
